Can I use DeepL to translate WhatsApp messages?
Yes, you can translate your WhatsApp messages in your browser with our DeepL browser extensions for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
This feature is currently only available for the web version of WhatsApp. To connect your WhatsApp account with the web version, go to WhatsApp Web and follow the instructions on the page.
Reading messages
To translate your received messages, hover over the message you would like to translate. A DeepL icon will then appear on the right side of the message. Click on the icon to have the translation of the message displayed right below it.
If you have not selected a target language yet, you will be asked to do so before the translation. You can change your target language under the settings icon next to the DeepL icon or in the setting of the extension.
If you want to see alternative translations for the selected text, click on See alternatives at DeepL.com. You will be forwarded to our web translator.
Please note that only text messages are supported for translation with DeepL. It is not possible to translate emojis, GIF files, stickers, pictures, or videos.
Writing messages
To translate your own messages, type the text you would like to translate in the text area at the bottom of the page. A DeepL icon will appear in the text area when you start writing. Click on it to replace your text with its translation.
If you have not selected a target language yet, you will be asked to do so before the translation. You can change your target language under the settings icon next to the DeepL icon or in the setting of the extension.
If your message contains emojis, they will be placed in a matching position in the translated message.
