Glossaries are part of the customization hub, which groups DeepL's customization features in one place. Other features you can find here are the following.
A glossary allows you to specify translations for words and short phrases. Each glossary consists of one or more glossary entries with the term in a source language (source text) and your preferred translation (target text). Your glossary can include one or more language pairs.
Glossary entries are automatically adapted to agree with the grammatical rules of the target language, rather than following a "search and replace" method.
That means, similar to a standard dictionary, there is no need to enter plural forms or inflected verbal forms.
Some subscription plans allow you to create multiple glossaries.
Learn more about the deletion of glossaries in this article, or read this article to find out how you can download your glossaries.
Available languages
You can create glossaries for all languages listed under "Available languages" in this article, as well as Hebrew and Vietnamese. Languages mentioned under "Additional languages" are not supported for the glossary feature.
It is not possible to specify language variants when creating a glossary.
Available platforms
The glossary is available for both text and file translation on the following platforms:
- Web translator
- Desktop apps
- Mobile apps
- Browser extensions
- DeepL for Microsoft 365 (add-ins)

DeepL API subscription
You can create glossaries with your DeepL API (Free and Pro) subscription. Consult the DeepL API documentation for more information about glossary related API requests.
You can access and manage your glossaries via the DeepL REST API and via Glossaries on the DeepL website after logging in. To learn more about how to create a glossary via the DeepL website, consult this article.
Sales-managed customers might have an account with both an API Pro as well as a Translator subscription. An admin who is assigned a Translator license can manage both API and Translator glossaries.
To show either API or Translator glossaries, select the toggle next to Show API Glossaries.
