Use DeepL directly in your web or desktop application for Microsoft Outlook. The add-in allows you to translate your emails from and into all supported languages or improve them, with AI-powered spelling and grammar corrections, as well as style adjustments.
The DeepL add-in is available for Microsoft Word, Outlook and PowerPoint. The add-in is not supported for the Microsoft Outlook mobile app.
The DeepL for Microsoft Outlook add-in is supported for the following products:
- Outlook 2019 or later on Windows, except for Office 2019 (Volume/Professional Plus)
- Outlook 2016 or later on Mac
- Outlook for Windows (Microsoft 365)
- Outlook for Mac (Microsoft 365)
- Outlook for web
Set up and login
- In the sidebar on the left, click the Apps icon
- Click Add apps
- Search for "DeepL" in the search bar
- Select the DeepL for Outlook add-in—a new window will open
- Get DeepL for Outlook by clicking Add

Once you've added it, you need to set it up.
- In a new email go to the Message or Insert tab and click Apps
- Select DeepL for Outlook
- A panel will open on the right side of the page
- Click Get started
To log in to your DeepL account, do the following:
- Click Login
- You'll be asked to confirm that DeepL is allowed to open a new window
- Click Allow and enter your credentials in the new window
If your company has enabled login via SSO for your team, click Continue with SSO to log in.
- Navigate to the sidebar and select More Apps
- Click Add apps
- You will be redirected to the Office Store
- Type "DeepL" in the search bar
- Add DeepL for Outlook by clicking Add
You can now find the add-in in the task pane, in the more options menu .
To set up the add-in:
- Click DeepL for Outlook
- A new window will open on the right side of the screen
- Click Get started
A new window will ask you to log in with your DeepL account or sign up for one.
To log in to your DeepL account, do the following:
- Click Login
- You'll be asked to confirm that DeepL is allowed to open a new window.
- Click Allow and enter your credentials in the new window.
If your company has enabled login via SSO for your team, click Continue with SSO to log in.
Translate text in Microsoft Outlook
To translate emails stored in your Outlook folders (e.g., Inbox, Drafts, etc.), do the following:
- Open the email you want to translate
- Click the DeepL icon
or find DeepL for Outlook in Apps
- Choose the language you would like to translate into
- Click Translate email
Other possible actions:
- Click the copy icon
to copy the translated text to your clipboard
- Click Detect language to manually select a source language
- Translate attached files via file translation
To translate text as you compose an email, do the following:
- Compose a new email
- Click the DeepL icon
- Select Translator in the side pane
- Select a target language to translate to
- Highlight to select text
- The translated text will appear in the side pane
Other possible actions:
- Click Replace text with translation to replace the original text with its translation
- Click the Copy icon
Apply a glossary
To apply a glossary to your translations in Outlook, do the following:
- Click the glossary icon in the DeepL window
- Select the glossary you want to apply
Set the formality
Apply different tones to your translations for languages supported by the formality feature.
- Click the formality icon
in the DeepL window
- Select the tone:
- Formal tone
- Informal tone
- Automatic
Improve text in Microsoft Outlook
DeepL Write corrects spelling and grammar mistakes, and can adapt the overall style of your text.
- Select Write at the top of the DeepL side pane
- Select the text you want to improve
- The improved version will automatically be displayed in the DeepL side pane
Other possible actions:
- Click Replace text with improvement to replace the original text with its translation
- Click the Copy icon
- Click Detect language to manually select a source language

The Write function of the DeepL add-in supports all DeepL Write features except for Show changes and Terms.
Change the style and tone
When using the Write function, you can also adjust the writing style and tone of your improved version.
- Click Style
- Select a style and/or tone for your text
- Click on Apply
Your text will be rewritten in the selected style and tone. To remove the applied style or tone, click Style again and select Reset.

The following character limits apply per day for the Translator and Write functions of the DeepL for Microsoft Outlook add-in:
