Translate as you read
To translate text extracts in a Google Doc, do the following:
- Highlight text you want to translate
- Click the DeepL icon that appears in the document
Alternatively, try the keyboard shortcuts: ⇧+⌘+Y for Mac / Ctrl+Shift+Y for Windows
The translation will appear in a small window on top of the Google document. Here you can do the following:
- Choose or change the target language
- Listen to the original text or the translation
- Copy the translation to your clipboard
- View dictionary entries for the selected text (only for single words at a time)
Translate as you write
To replace text in a Google document with its translation, do the following:
- Compose, then highlight text you want to translate
- Click the DeepL icon that appears in the document
- The translated text is previewed in a small window
- [Optional] Select alternative versions of words or sentences using the Alternatives
feature
- Click the Replace in document
button in the DeepL window
- The translation will replace the selected text in your Google document
- Select the text you want to improve
- Hover over the DeepL icon
that appears in the document
- Click the Improve selected text icon
- The improved text is previewed in a small window
- [Optional] Select alternative versions of words or sentences using the Alternatives
feature
- Click Replace in document to replace the original text with the improved version
