Prerequisites
- DeepL AI connectors are enabled for your team. Contact your team admin to enable DeepL usage in AI assistants or to add a custom connector to Claude. For more information, see this article.
Connect DeepL to Claude via the plugin
The DeepL plugin consists of the DeepL AI connector and skills, which ensure the following:
- Consistent DeepL quality: Claude uses DeepL to translate texts and documents instead of its built-in translation tools.
- Preserved document layout: Claude sends your files to DeepL, which retains the original layout of your document. For supported file formats, see About DeepL AI connectors.
- Glossary awareness: Before translating, Claude checks whether a glossary exists for your language pair. Claude will notify you if a glossary is missing and will indicate which glossary was used.
- Controlled glossary changes: Claude displays the entries that it adds, changes and removes. Claude waits for your confirmation before saving. New terms come from the content that you share.
- Better results with less effort: Claude sends the surrounding text to DeepL to provide context. Claude applies the formality and style rules that you have already set, so you do not need to repeat them in every request.
- Guided first translation: Ask Claude to "get started with DeepL". Claude will then translate your text or file. If you have a paid DeepL plan, Claude will then offer to save your key terms as a glossary.
To add the plugin, do the following:
- Go to the DeepL plugin and enable it.
- Go to the plugin's Connectors tab. Connect DeepL from this tab.
- Sign in with your DeepL account on the DeepL sign-in page.
Connect DeepL to Claude via the certified connector

To add the connector, do the following:
- Go to the certified DeepL connector

Troubleshooting
Make DeepL your default translator in your AI assistant
Document translations with DeepL don't work in Claude.
On Claude Team and Enterprise plans, the Claude owner needs to allow
the
URL mcp.deepl.com.
- Go to Organization settings| Capabilities | Allow network egress
- Select Package managers and Specific domains
-
Add
mcp.deepl.com
Otherwise, Claude will provide an upload link to open in your browser. If your company uses a firewall or proxy, mcp.deepl.com must also be allowed there.
DeepL isn't used for my translations
There are a couple of steps you take to ensure that DeepL is used for translations in your AI assistant. For more information, see Make DeepL your default translator in your AI assistant.
