Alternative phrasing
You can select alternative phrasing for either single words or whole phrases.
Do the following to select alternative phrasing:
- Click on the word you'd like to change
- Click on Replace word for a list of single word alternatives
or
Click on Rephrase sentence for a list of alternative phrasings of the whole highlighted text
To undo changes, click on the undo icon over the changed text.
Set a writing style or tone
To change the writing style or tone of your entire text, click the Style menu in the upper right-hand corner of the text field.
You can choose between the following four writing styles:
- Simple: For plain, straightforward writing that's accessible to a broad audience
- Business: For workplace emails, pitches, reports, and presentations
- Academic: For research papers, articles, theses, and books
- Casual: For informal, conversational writing on social media, messaging apps, and blogs
You can also choose one of the following tones to communicate a certain emotional mood or attitude:
- Enthusiastic: For a text that sounds positive and excited
- Friendly: For text that sounds warm and empathetic
- Confident: For a text that sounds direct, assertive, and action-oriented
- Diplomatic: For a text that sounds more tactful and polite, while being humble and indirect
Select your preferred writing style or tone and click Apply. Your texts will then be rewritten in the selected style. You can switch between writing styles by repeating the same steps. To undo the changes, click Reset.

Set a formality
To change the formality of your entire text, do the following:
- Click the Style menu in the upper right-hand corner of the text field
- Chose between formal and informal
Shorten your text
To shorten an improved text, do the following:
- Select the entire text
- Click Shorten
- A window will appear with different options for the shortened text
- Select your preferred option and click on Replace, or click Discard if you wish to keep the original text
Terms to never edit
You can create a list of terms that should never be edited when your text is improved. This feature is currently only available in English and German. There is a limit of a maximum of ten terms.
To add these terms, do the following:
- Click Terms in the upper right-hand corner of the text field
- A pop-up window will appear where you can enter the terms that should never be edited and the language to which the term applies (multiple languages can be selected)
- Click on Add to add the term to your list
- Delete a term by clicking on the small trash can icon next to it
- You can activate or deactivate the feature using the toggle
