Content is translated from English using DeepL Pro.
With the DeepL mobile apps, you can convert non-Latin translations into the Latin alphabet. The conversion of a language from one alphabet into another is also known as transliteration.
If you translate text into a language that uses a non-Latin alphabet you're not familiar with (e.g., the Cyrillic alphabet or Chinese characters) you can view the transliteration of the translation in our DeepL mobile apps for Android and iOS.
This feature can help you improve your reading comprehension in the following languages: Bulgarian, Chinese (Simplified), Greek, Japanese, and Russian.
For Android and iOS
The transliteration of short texts written in non-Latin alphabet will be displayed automatically right below your translation.
To view the transliteration of your translation of longer texts, do the following:
- Translate a text into a non-Latin alphabet
- Minimize your keyboard (and scroll down in needed)
- For longer texts, tap Show in Latin alphabet
- (Optional) Tap Hide text in Latin alphabet to remove the transliteration
Transliteration will not be shown in the following scenarios:
- For source texts
- In case your device's language is the same as the language you are translating into
