Can I translate text from images?
Yes, you can translate text from images or photos.
For iOS
To translate text from an image, please do the following:
- Open the mobile app and select the languages.
- Tap the Image button beneath the source text field.
- Choose a picture from your camera roll. The text from the picture will be inserted into the source text field and translated to the language of your choice.
The feature currently only supports the following source languages: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Chinese.
Please note that translations of small, badly lit, handwritten, or stylized text may not be accurate.
For Android
To translate text from an image, please do the following:
- Open the mobile app and select the languages.
- Tap the Camera button beneath the source text field. The interface will switch to text scanning mode. If permission wasn't granted yet, allow DeepL to take pictures and record videos.
- Tap the Image button in the bottom-left corner of the app.
- Choose a picture.
- Confirm the selection by tapping the Tick button .
- The text from the picture will be inserted into the source text field and translated to the language of your choice.
The feature currently doesn't support Greek and languages using the Cyrillic script as the source language.
