Select alternative words or phrases to customize your translations and improved texts on the web, desktop, browser extensions and mobile apps.
There are two options to view alternative phrasings for your texts:
- Directly under your translation or improved text (only for short texts)
- In a dropdown list by clicking on a word you wish to change
Depending on the platform you are using, the options to view alternative phrases might differ. Learn more about viewing alternatives for the DeepL browser extensions here.
- Click on the word you want to change
- Select your preferred alternative word from the list of
Alternatives (scroll to see all options)
- Click on the word you want to change
- Click Rephrase sentence or Replace word
- Choose your preferred alternative from the drop-down list (scroll to see all options)
Using alternatives can sometimes change the sentence structure of your translation. This means that adjustments later in the text might be replaced if you make changes in the preceding text.
Limitations
Alternatives for whole sentences are only available for English and German for DeepL Write.
Alternatives are not available when using DeepL Translator to translate into Chinese.
Alternative translations are also not available for the file translation feature.
