The API key is a code that enables access to DeepL API. It looks similar to the code below:
df4385c2-33de-e423-4134-ca1f7b3ea8b7
The API key lets you integrate DeepL's translation technology with your own products, services, and third party plugins, including CAT tools.
Depending on your API plan, it is possible to create more than one API key for your subscription. To learn how to export key-level CSV reports, see this article.
If you can't find an API key in your DeepL account, check that you are subscribed to the right plan.
Find your API key
- Log in to your DeepL account
- Go to Account
- Click the API Keys & Limits tab
Create new API keys
- Go to your DeepL account and the API Keys & Limits tab
- Click Create key
- Give the API key a name
If you don't name the key, it will, by default, be labelled "DeepL API key" - Click Create key to confirm
The number of simultaneously active keys depends on your subscription.
- DeepL API Developer users can use one active key
- DeepL API Free users can use up to 2 active keys
- DeepL API Growth users can use up to 10 active keys
- DeepL API Pro users can use up to 25 active keys
- Enterprise API users can use a custom number of active keys
Once you have created a new key, you can set a usage limit for it.
Deactivate obsolete or corrupted keys
If one of your keys is stolen or you have problems with it, you can deactivate it and make a new one.
- Click the more options icon
next to the API key
- Select Deactivate key
- Click Deactivate key to confirm
Deactivated keys will be displayed in your API key list marked as Deactivated. It is not possible to remove deactivated keys from the list. They do not count against your active key limit.
Rename keys
You can rename both active and deactivated keys in the API keys tab.
- Click the more options icon
next to the API key
- Select Rename key
- Enter the new name
- Click Rename key to confirm the change
You can use the same name for multiple keys.
Copy API keys
For security reasons, the full API key won't be visible in the API keys tab. To view the full key, you can copy it to your clipboard and insert it where needed.
- Go to the key you'd like to copy
- Click the copy icon
next to the API key
You can copy active and deactivated keys.
