Cost control and usage limit

The DeepL API plan offers you the option to set a limit on the number of characters that you can translate. You can either set a monthly cost control limit for your subscription, or a monthly character usage limit per API key.

To set a monthly cost control limit for your subscription, follow these steps:

1. Go to the API Keys & Limits tab in your account
2. Click Manage cost control in the top right corner
3. In the window that opens, check the box next to Activate cost control
4. Enter the monthly maximum limit of costs you wish to set (the limit must be higher than 0)
5. Click Submit

If you wish to remove the cost control limit, click Manage cost control and uncheck the box next to Activate cost control.

Once you have reached your cost control limit, the DeepL API will not process any further translation requests until the end of the billing period. If you would like to translate more, you can make further changes at any time.

To set a monthly key-level usage limit, follow these steps:

1. Go to the API Keys & Limits tab in your account
2. Click the three dot menu next to the key for which you want to set a usage limit
3. Click Set limit
4. In the window that opens, check the box next to Activate usage limit
5. Enter the character limit you wish to enforce in the field below
6. Click Submit

Your new limit is applied immediately. If you wish to change the limit again, click Edit limit. If you wish to remove the limit completely, click Remove limit.

Once you have reached a key's limit, the DeepL API will not process any further translation requests until the end of the billing period. If you would like to translate more, you can make further changes at any time.
