Translate your text faster by using shortcuts in DeepL desktop apps. You'll speed up your work by removing the need to manually copy and paste text.
In DeepL for Windows, you can also easily improve your texts from any app using a shortcut.
To use a shortcut to translate text from any app, do the following:
- Select the text you would like to translate
- Press the keyboard shortcut ⌘ + C + C (hold ⌘ and type C twice)
- Translated text will appear in a small window on top of the app you're using
To customize and manage your shortcut, do the following:
- Open the DeepL for Mac app
- Click the menu icon
and choose Settings
- Go to DeepL Shortcut and choose your preferred settings
If the app runs in the background, it will no longer show up in your menu bar, but will be reopened when you use the translation shortcut.
In your app's settings you can do the following:
- Enable, disable, and customize the keyboard shortcut
- Choose where you'd like the translated or improved text to appear (small window vs directly in the DeepL app)
- Show or hide the floating DeepL icon
Before using a shortcut, make sure it is activated in your settings.

- Click the Keyboard shortcuts tab and locate the Choose your shortcuts section
- Choose your preferred settings under Translate selected text
To use a shortcut to improve text from any app, do the following:
- Select the text you would like to improve
- Either click the floating DeepL icon or press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Windows key + C (hold Ctrl and the Windows key and type C)
- Your selected text will be copied into the app and improved there
To customize and manage your text improvement shortcut, do the following:
- Open the DeepL for Windows app
- Click the menu icon
and choose Settings
- Click the Keyboard shortcuts tab and locate the Choose your shortcuts section
- Choose your preferred settings under Improve selected text
