What is image translation and how can I use it?
With the image translation feature, you can translate the text on an image. The app will extract the text automatically and translate it via text translation.
At the moment, this feature is only available in DeepL for Windows and our mobile apps. It's not supported on DeepL for Mac, the web translator, the API, or the browser extensions.

There are 2 ways in which you can translate images with DeepL for Windows:

Translate an image you upload
To translate the text on an image you upload:
- Open DeepL for Windows
- Go to the Images tab
- Click Upload image
- Select an image from your files
- Click Open
The text will be extracted from your image and moved to the text translator. Here, you can also apply a glossary or the formal/informal feature to your translation.
Important: Only the text on the image is going to be translated. It is not possible to generate a new image with the translated text after the translation.
The following file types are supported for image translation at the moment:
- BMP
- PNG
- JPG
- JPEG
- TIF
- TIFF
- GIF
Capture text on your screen
In DeepL for Windows, you also have the option to take a screenshot of your desktop and translate it with DeepL. The text from your screenshot will be extracted and translated directly in the app.
Important: Only the text on the image is going to be translated. It is not possible to generate a new image with the translated text after the translation.
