Can I edit my translated document before downloading it?
Yes, with the edit mode for document translation, you can make changes to your translated file before downloading it.
This article covers the following topics which will help you learn more about the edit mode:
Availability of the edit mode
This feature is currently only available in our web translator. It's not supported for our desktop apps.
The edit mode for document translation is available exclusively for DeepL Pro subscribers (Starter/Advanced/Ultimate). Users of our free version as well as users with an API subscription won't be able to use this feature.
Note: This feature is a beta version, and we are constantly working on improving it. We are rolling it out gradually and it might not yet be available for all DeepL Pro users.
The edit mode can be used for all file types supported by our document translation feature. Please note that the supported file types may vary depending on your subscription type. For more information, read this article on document formats.

- Drag a file to translate into the translation area
Click Select from your computer and select a file to translate
- Choose a language to translate your file into

You can edit the text of the translated file directly in the right text field. Please note that you can't edit the original text of your file in this mode.
When editing your translation, you can also use the Alternatives feature to view alternative translations by clicking a word. A drop-down menu will open with possible alternative translations for the selected word.
At the bottom of the source text field, next to the file name, you'll find an Undo/Redo option. By clicking the arrow on the left , you can undo any changes made to the translated text. Alternatively, you can press the shortcut ⌘+Z on Mac or Ctrl+Z on Windows.
With the arrow on the right, you can redo those changes. Alternatively, you can press the shortcut ⌘+Shift+Z on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+Z on Windows.
Once you've finished editing your translation, you can click the Done button at the bottom of the target text area to download your freshly edited file. Your edits will be saved and the translated file will be updated automatically.
If you'd like to download the file without your edits, click on the arrow next to the Done button. Here, you can choose whether you'd like to download the file with or without your edits.
To exit the edit mode without downloading the file, click on Discard at the bottom of the target text area. A dialog will appear asking you to confirm your choice. Please note that if you choose to discard, your edits won't be saved. The translation of your uploaded file will also not be available anymore.
You can use the edit mode for any document you translate as per your subscription plan.
Please note that this feature currently only works for documents with less than 50,000 characters.
