You can use our speech-to-text function on the web translator to translate your spoken texts. By using the microphone of your device, your spoken words will be transcribed and translated directly in our web translator. You will receive the translation as text.

This function supports spoken input for the following languages:

Use the speech-to-text function
Before you start translating, make sure that you allow the website www.deepl.com to use your microphone with your browser.
To translate your spoken text, do the following:
- Select a supported language
- Click the microphone icon
to start recording
- If required, give your consent for the usage of the function (only necessary on first use)
- Speak into your microphone
- Click the red recording icon
to stop recording
Your texts will be automatically transcribed and translated into text.
You can record up to 30 seconds of speech. After 30 seconds, the recording will stop automatically and your text will be translated.
The recording will also stop if there is no speech detected for longer than 15 seconds while recording.
Consent to record your spoken text
When using the speech-to-text function for the first time, you will be asked to consent to your voice being recorded when you use this function. To give your consent, click OK at the bottom of the pop-up message.
Your recordings will be temporarily stored by DeepL to improve our services, but only when using the free version of the DeepL Translator, both with or without a DeepL account.

You can withdraw your consent for the use of this function at any time by clearing your website data, or the cookies in your browser. Your browser cookies can be deleted in the privacy section of your browser's settings. The next time you click the microphone icon to record, you will then be asked to give your consent again. Information about whether you have given your consent is stored in a cookie (speechToTextConsent) on the DeepL website. When you clear your browser cookies, this information is deleted and your consent is withdrawn.
